My Birthday Haul

Last week was my birthday, and I celebrated by going vinyl-crazy. Most of these I bought myself but my lovely girlfriend purchased me the Deer Tick album. Descriptions after the jump.

InInIn’s South by Southwest Coverage

SXSW 2009 is over. And it was awesome. I got back from Austin around 2 AM Monday morning and then went to class 7 hours later. That was fun. But I have gone through thousands of my pictures just for you! I saw a lot of bands. Some I know the names of and others I don’t know and probably never will.

My favorite shows were Wovenhand and (just as I predicted) Monotonix.

Austin was a blast and I miss all the blipsters, altbros, mexicalts, texalts, and the crazy Japanese metal band wandering around 6th street. All my photos are up on Flickr if you want to check out the big (good) versions:

Deer Tick moved to The Statehouse + Blk Jks

Well it sucks that The Cinemat is out of commission but it is good that the Deer Tick show on Saturday will be going on…and now it has a more beefy lineup. Now the show is:

Deer Tick

BUT NOW ADD…

Blk Jks

Spirit of ’68 Presents…

DEER TICK

BLK JKS
@ The Statehouse (321 E. Wylie)

The Blk Jks are a band from South Africa that just signed with Secretly Canadian. I actually haven’t heard them yet but I have heard from a trusted source that they are excellent. RIP Cinemat, but hellooooooooo Statehouse!
PS: Please don’t be afraid to attend because this is now a house show. It will be awesome and the house is NOT hard to find at all.

Edit: Got the Blk Jks EP from SCD (lots of abbreviations ftw!) and it is excellent. Pick it up/go to the show.

Valentine’s Week Wrap-Up + Preview of the Upcoming Week

Valentine’s week is over and I officially survived. I caught Larkin Grimm on Monday and had a good time hearing about female orgasms and how wonderful her hired band is. She was good and hearing her say “put a burkha on that bitch” pretty much made my night. Of course, no words can describe the opener, Chris Barth. I will leave it at that.

Thursday I caught some of Company of Thieves and they were decent. They did a horrendous cover of the Smashing Pumpkins’1979,” but at least I could watch Pee Wee’s Big Adventure in the background.

Friday I was at The Clinic for a minute but eventually made my way over to S. Lincoln for a good ole dance party…which got busted waaaaaaaay too soon.

I took the weekend off picture-wise since I had to take so dang many of them for class during the week.

With that settled…
Onto this week!
