NOISE – Thursday, February 5

Here’s the deal. Every Thursday the group Live from Bloomington puts on free concerts at the Indiana Memorial Union. They are all free and most of the time the bands are excellent. They are aimed at students, but anybody and everybody can show up. This week is Impure Jazz, Tammar, La Santa Muerta. I have seen Impure Jazz a couple times and they do some good jams. Anyway, here’s the info from Facebook:

After making an appearance on local label Crossroads of America Records’ first compilation CD, this side project of husband&wife’s Will Rose and Tim Felton is finally ready to re-join the Btown live music circuit.

TAMMAR

This experimental indie band has been creating tunes that leave listeners mystified for a while now. Lots of amazing sounds and melodies. We hope you’re as excited as we are for their NOISE debut.

IMPURE JAZZ

Who needs lyrics when the music gets as intense as this band lets it? If you haven’t seen Impure Jazz yet, this is the perfect opportunity to introduce yourself to one of Bloomington’s most talked-about bands of ’08.

As always, this show is FREE and All-Ages, so ditch your homework, grab your friends, and get ready for a good nite of all-local music.”

CLINICROCK – Saturday, February 7

Concert this Saturday at The Clinic – 111 E. 9th St. (@ Washington). Quality entertainment. Waxeater and Found Objects are bands I have seen and are always good. Here’s the scoop from Facebook:

Bands in Weird Spaces

I’ve noticed that a lot of blogs and programs like to put artists in weird places to perform. Sometimes this works pretty well but other times…well just watch the Iron & Wine video. I’ve compiled some of my favorites so you can enjoy them as well.

Indisputably one of the best things on the internet. Not much more to say about this one.

I love Frida Hyvönen. She is a sexy, awesome lady. I saw her play here in Bloomington a few months ago and it was amazing. Go see her and buy her records. This is a good video except for the androgynous person attempting to sing harmony.

This is the bad one. Well, it’s good music but for some reason they decided to film artists playing in elevators. There are videos with Bon Iver, Frida, and other people too but this is my favorite because he is obviously pissed off that he has to play in an elevator.

This is also a pretty good one. It is The Explorers Club doing a song in some random place in Athens, Georgia. They are about to go on tour to promote their new (awesome) record Freedom Wind. They will be in Bloomington on March 1 at The Cinemat.
